Our Motivation

We're raising funds and awareness this Movember for all the dads, brothers, sons and mates in our lives. We need your help. Please donate to support men's health.

When I started at Movember as the Country Director four years ago, I had two personal goals. The first was to bring Movember out into the other 11 months of the year, the second to have as many meaningful conversations with other guys as I could about our health and wellness. My moustache, which has been growing since Nov 1, 2019, was a symbol for that. A year long conversation starter.
I can report back success on both fronts. But I can also report that we need both more than ever. The reality of quarantine, isolation and the shocks to our social systems have been devastating. I've lost two friends to suicide, and know of many others. Men are still being diagnosed with prostate & testicular cancer, surviving, and also, sadly dying too soon. We need to keep talking.

This Movember welcome to my 30x30x30 challenge. 30 conversations, in 30 days, with 30 guys about our health and wellness. Let's see what we've learned!
Thank you for your support of our work to change the face of men's health. With your help - we are making a difference.

Previous year's posts

FINISHED! I pictured the final metres would look like me running in slow motion, with my head tilted skyward in delight while the soundtrack to Chariots of Fire trilled in the background. Instead, it was actually just me taking a load of laundry down the stairs. And done is done! 240 km in the books.

The final Mo-tion Monday. As of this writing, I'm at 232.7 km of my 240 km goal. So I'm not quite there yet, but I have ... (counts fingers) ... three days to go! Based on my usual pace, I'll probably crack the 240 km mark on Tuesday morning. Fans (that means you, devoted spouse), have your credit card ready.

Mo-tion Monday. We're two-thirds in, and here's where I'm at. I've walked 170 km of my 240 km goal. I'm averaging 9 km a day and have logged nearly 242,000 steps.

Day 10

Movement Monday! My goal is to walk 240 km this month, which means I need to walk an average of 8 km a day until Nov. 30.

The first five days of the month are in, and I've done 49.5 km or 75,902 steps. This is a strong start, as for November I'm averaging about 9.9 km or 14,200 steps a day.

Just 190.5 km to go. I'm guessing there will be a few Tim Hortons stops along the way.

A few days late in posting our Week One update. Declan seems to have the early lead in ‘stache quality/quantity. John sporting the busted front tooth look (it’s an old injury that popped back out in time for the pic).
