General Questions

The Canadian Male Health Network (CMHN) is a Movember initiative that was started this year to address critical male health issues.

Initially, the Canadian Male Health Network will be bringing together some of the top scientific and medical professionals from across the country as an advisory panel to Movember Canada. The panel will assist in identifying gaps in the Canadian male mental health area, but will address broader men’s health issues in the future.  Funds from the Movember campaign will be invested in the identified priority areas following this year’s campaign.

For more information on the network please click here.
Movember is the month formerly known as November, where men and women across the globe join together to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues. Men grow a Mo (moustache) for 30 days to become walking, talking billboards, for our men’s health causes - specifically prostate cancer and male mental health initiatives.

Men who support Movember, called Mo Bros, start by registering at Movember.com. Mo Bros start Movember 1st clean shaven, then grow and groom their Mo for the rest of the month, raising money along the way. Women who support Movember, called Mo Sistas, also start by registering at Movember.com. Mo Sistas champion the Mo by supporting their Mo Bros, organizing events, leading a team and spreading the important message of men’s health.

The only way to do this is to have two separate registrations, one for each team. This is not recommended as it can create confusion, and you will not be able to combine your donations in order to reach milestones such as free Gala Tickets, Platinum Prize, etc.
Facebook Connect allows you to easily post news items from the Movember website to your Facebook wall asking your friends to either join your Movember team or make a donation. You can also see which of your Facebook friends are also participating in Movember.
Since all information is sent via email, we require an email address from you in order to register. You will also need your email address to log in and view your donation progress.

If you do not have an email address, ask a family member or friend if you can have the information sent to their address and printed for you. Alternatively, you can create one for free using Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo or many other free email accounts.

Your email address and personal details are protected by our
privacy policy and will not be sold to any third party or used for marketing.

Mo Space is a Movember participant’s personal page to share photos, videos, updates and fundraising totals with each other. Every participant can create his or her own Mo Space page through the login area.
A Mo is slang for the word moustache and is defined according to the Movember rules:

1.    There is to be no joining of the Mo to your side burns – That’s considered a beard.
2.    There is to be no joining of the handlebars – That’s considered a goatee.
3.    A small complimentary growth under the bottom lip is allowed (aka a tickler).

A network is a group made up of different teams and individuals that could represent a company, organization, college or school, sports team, community group or other.

You can be a member of multiple networks, e.g. your work network and/or sports team network. This allows you to contribute to their total amount raised and compare fundraising, while still participating on your own or in a team. This is a great way for business, schools, civil services and other groups to track their progress.

To set up a network for your group please call 1-855-4GROWMO(1-855-447-6966) or email us at info.ca@movember.com.
If you already have a Moustache you can do a ‘reverse Movember’ and have people donate to you to shave it off. Alternatively, you could shave off your moustache on Movember 1st and then re-grow your Mo throughout the month…. Maybe it’s time to try a new Mo style?
We’re afraid not. The definition of a Mo is:

1.    There is to be no joining of the Mo to your side burns – That’s considered a beard.
2.    There is to be no joining of the handlebars – That’s considered a goatee.
3.    A small complimentary growth under the bottom lip is allowed (aka a tickler).

Costumes are encouraged, however they’re not intended to overpower the Mo, they work in synergy with the Mo, with originality of concept being paramount. To view past Gala Partés photos, simply click on the Events tab of the website.

Movember ran its fifth campaign in the Canada in 2011, raising an incredible $42 million. This is a terrific effort by our passionate Mo Bros, Mo Sistas and donors at a time when economic conditions are tough and every dollar counts.

After the admin, retained funds and cost of running the campaign, all funds raised go towards awareness, research and survivorship programs.
In 2011 our cost ratio was 8%, meaning that 92% of funds raised, or 92 cents on the dollar, went towards our men’s health initiatives. Industry standard for cost ratios are between 15-25%. We work hard to keep these as low as possible and keep as much funds as possible going towards our programs.
Of the funds donated outside of operating costs 90% of these go towards Prostate Cancer Canada and 10% goes to The Movember Foundations GAP program.

The financial summary for the 2011 campaign is located here with complete details available in the annual report.
In 2012 50% of funds raised after operating costs will go towards Prostate Cancer Canada, 10% will go to support prostate cancer initiatives through the Movember Foundation’s GAP program and 40% will go to support male mental health initiatives of the Canadian Male Health Network.
