In the lead up to Rememberance day we'd like to honour Mo Bro Richard Jones. Richard is a WWII veteran living with prostate cancer, and he has a mo-tastic and unique hobby, creating puzzles (like Sudoku) using the 9 letter word… moustache.

Not too long ago Richard took up Sudoku puzzles as a hobby, but unlike the rest of us he didn’t stop there, he learned how to create the puzzles from scratch. Unfortunately, his wife Norma doesn’t share his passion for numbers, so he went in search of a word with 9 letters. He finally decided on the regal, the beautiful, the…Moustache. “Moustache because it is the same in both English and French.” Says Richard.

Richard is almost 90 years young and lives in Kingston, Ontario with his wife Norma and is a continual inspiration to his grandchildren. His grandson, Chapman Swaine, a Mo Bro, is the Mo connection. Unfortunately his love of the mo and his grandson aren't his only connections to Movember, like so many men in Canada and around the world (1 in 7 men) he is living with prostate cancer.

Richard’s journey with prostate cancer has been a long one. “It all began with a UTI that was treated in 1995, but no cancer was found” he continues “it became a game of watchful waiting, and I was finally diagnosed last December.” After surgery, two doctors and three medications he is living as comfortably as possible.

When asked what he thought about the hairy ribbon, and Movember in general he responded simply, “I think it’s magnificent.” Richard’s upper lip is slightly sparse, but is bushy like his grandson’s in spirit. We salute you and your Mo power!
