Fundraising for cause areas including:
Prostate cancer

I have been recently diagnosed with prostate cancer and have recently received almost all my test results that show it should be 100% curable with a surgery December 14th. One night in the hospital and then back home to heal.

The statistics are pretty scary, 40% of men over 40 have prostate cancer, 50% over 50, 60% over 60, 70% over 70 and 80% over 80. When Lindsay was getting her Nursing degree they told her that if a man lives long enough they would eventually die from prostate cancer. I have a hope that if many of the people I tell get tested, we can save a life.

If prostate cancer isn’t caught early, it spreads to the lymph nodes, the bones and then other organs. The earlier it is caught the easier the treatment is.

I will donate $10 for everyone that I tell who is tested and $100 if the test results come back with a PSA level above 3, which means it should be monitored.

A PSA test is simply a blood test done in conjunction with any other annual physical blood tests. For those that done want a digital rectal exam, the PSA can be done alone.

None of the exams I have had have been difficult or painful (the digital rectal one was awkward but the others, including a biopsy were physically easy). The more we talk about such things the easier they will be mentally.

I am also participating in two AHS research programs, one to get a better test than the PSA that can be more definitive, and a second to see if Tai Chi aids in the recovery from the surgery. I am now wearing a fitbit, an accelerometer and my Garmin watch. Tons of data.

We can all be resilient together, save a life, get yourself or a loved one tested!

on my way home, post surgery. perhaps we could turn the stab scars into a tattoo of the milky way

Here's an update on my progress. the MRI showed no problems in any other areas.
In preparation for the surgery I have a massage Thursday, tai chi Saturday, a fitness test Monday as part of the research and I get to call Monday to get my surgery time.

Lots to do before that but still coping well.

As a reminder I will make my donation for everyone that has their PSA tested as a result of this on December 31st at as close to midnight as I can manage (we normally go to bed by 9 pm and get up at 5 am ;) )

Thanks for your kind wishes, prayers, thoughts and encouragement.
