My motivation
Fundraising for cause areas including:
Men's health

Movember is the leading charity changing the face of men's health, and this year I'm joining them again.

I am passionate myself about the following men's health ssues:

* Men have too much of a tendency to grit their teeth and bear it; we need to pay attention and seek help when something is wrong.

*The health care system has too much of a bias toward familiar conventional solutions, and will definitely try to jam a square peg into a round hole rather than do the work of identifying what's really going on, even when it's very hard to tell. So when we do go for help.

* The approach of waiting for the patient's symptoms to get so severe that they can finally be seen, or dismissing it as mental health if they can't figure it out, is a reprehensibly unenlightened approach to medical care that must be addressed.

I'm doing 60km this Movember for the 60 men we lose each hour of every day; and doubling down with at least 60 more for men with complex disease and trauma who suffer in silence, as I also did before.

As of yesterday I smashed through 3x the default suggested target for a move challenge, one and a half times my target, which I chose as a non-push challege. There was one time when I realized I had pushed myself too far, as it brought on more profound brain fog, a relapse of a cold due to an energy starved immune system, and two days of post exertion malaise, the hallmark symptom of one component of my own complex chronic disease profile.

I am blessed to have this much movement and I don't want to abuse it; there are many with this condition who are bedridden, and at one time I came close, last spring and also a few years ago. And more intense activities than walking are limited to much shorter durations.

With this in mind I will try to target a steady 10,000, soft maximum 11,000 knowing there's often a penalty if I exceed it, but also cognitive benefits to walking 10,000 steps. On days with lots of high-intensity activity, I'll probably shift the steps target to 7,500 with a soft max of 9,000. And on crash days it might be 3,000 or less. I may not report every day but at the end of the month I'll go back and scan through my Garmin stats and record where it landed.

See my page for my Mogress, from the anti-stash I plan to sport again afterwards, to the clean shave and restart at mid-month now sporting a nice little French liplash.

Also please go there to donate; currently sitting with default target of $500 and actual sitting at $10; thank you to whoever did that; wonderful. No expectation of where it will land, but always hoping the best for the cause.
