Why I Run: A Personal Journey for Men's Health

This November, I’m not just running for the sake of miles—I’m running for something deeply personal. Men’s health is a cause that matters to me, not just because of statistics, but because of the stories, struggles, and triumphs I’ve witnessed among friends, family, and colleagues.

Earlier this year, I challenged myself with a Backyard Ultra in London. It was tough, but what truly moved me was the support and camaraderie I found along the way. That experience taught me how much we can accomplish together, and how every step—no matter how small—can make a difference.

So, I’m bringing that spirit home. Throughout November, I’ll be running over 200 km, one day at a time, in the Backyard Ultra format but with a twist. Every 6.7 km I run is a reminder of the men in our lives who deserve better health, more support, and greater awareness.

I’m inviting you to join me—not just with a donation, but with your encouragement, your stories, or even a few shared miles. If you want to run or walk with me, reach out. If you can pledge support, know that every dollar goes toward changing lives.

This isn’t just about running. It’s about showing up for each other, about hope, and about making sure no one faces their health journey alone. Thank you for reading, for caring, and for being part of this cause with me.

With gratitude,
Sarah

Week 3 is nearly behind us, and the Business Club is showing what real leadership in men’s health looks like. The mustaches are bold, the kms are climbing, and meaningful conversations are happening in boardrooms, on job sites, and everywhere in between.

The momentum has been fantastic. Teams are engaging their colleagues, hosting creative fundraisers, and stepping up.

With the final week ahead and Movember Challenges closing on December 10, now’s the time to finish strong. Share your Mo Space, ask for that final donation, bring your team together, or log a few extra kms—every action makes a difference.

Take a look at who’s rising on the leaderboard and where your team stands.

Let’s finish strong and show the country how the Movember Business Club leads for men’s health.

Day 18 - Social Miles with Toby L.: Keeping Movember Moving

When A Committed Supporter and Endurance Go the Distance for Men’s Health

On a chilly 6-degree late afternoon on Day 18, I laced up for a special social pace run with Toby Lee—a committed support for my Movember campaign.

This year, he took things a step further. In addition to his usual donation, Toby found an hour in his busy schedule to join me for some miles, making this 6.71 km extra meaningful.

What many may not know is that running isn’t Toby’s usual activity. He prefers to stay active in other ways—playing pickleball and working out with his wife on Monday and Thursday. Despite not being a runner, Toby jumped right in, embracing the challenge with his trademark good spirit.

This Movember, we decided to mix things up. We plotted a mustache-shaped route, and it turned out just as fun as it sounds! Now in the third week of running 6.71 km daily, my legs are sore, and my quads are begging for a massage. I’m not used to this much running—let alone seven days in a row! But training for endurance is all part of the journey, and sharing the miles with Toby made the tougher stretches feel a little lighter and a lot more meaningful.

Running beside a dedicated supporter like Toby reminded me why we do this—not only to chase our personal goals, but to raise awareness and support for men’s health. Here’s to ambitious challenges, great company, and the power of running for a cause.

Your Mo' sister Sarah.

Another day. Another run. Another 6.71 km logged!

As Week 2 wraps up, the Movember Business Club is firing on all cylinders — and the impact across your organizations is already incredible.

Teams are rallying, Mos are filling in, and conversations are happening in boardrooms, break rooms, and virtual meetings — exactly what this Club is all about.

The momentum this week has been outstanding. You’re raising funds, raising awareness, and supporting one another in championing mental health, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer.

A massive thank-you to everyone who’s been part of this so far — your leadership is making a real difference.
Now’s the time to see who’s climbing the leaderboard and where your workplace stands.

Let’s carry this energy into Week 3. Keep growing, keep moving, and keep driving impact for men’s health.

Day 12 - Thanks for the miles, Graeme!

Running with someone always makes the miles pass more quickly. It was a pleasure catching up with Graeme today, despite the rain! During our run, I asked Graeme about his approach to decompressing, and his advice was refreshingly straightforward: “Any physical activity works!” This simple reminder highlights the importance of movement—not just for physical well-being, but for mental health as well.

Advocating for men’s health means encouraging open conversations, supporting one another, and recognizing that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Whether it’s through physical activity, meaningful connections, or professional support, prioritizing health—both physical and mental—is essential.

Let’s continue to promote awareness, foster supportive environments, and remind each other that taking care of our health is not only important, but necessary.

Day 8 - West Dyke Trail

As Remembrance Day approaches next Tuesday, I found myself reflecting while exploring the West Dyke Trail in Richmond—a site rich in history of the former Fort Steveston army base during World War II (1939–1945). This gravel trail winds through the Steveston area, offering peaceful views of the Salish Sea.

Whether you’re up for a short walk, a jog, or a bike ride, the West Dyke Trail is an ideal spot to step away from your routine. I went for an easy run on this trail today, and the soothing scenery was a gentle reminder of the importance of taking time for yourself.

If you’re feeling busy or overwhelmed, I highly recommend finding a moment to pause—whether it’s on this trail or anywhere that brings you calm. A simple break can refresh your mind and help you reconnect with what matters most.

Your Mo's sister Sarah.

Movember Business Club: Week 1 Wrap-Up!

Week 1 of Movember is almost in the books, and what a start it’s been!

If you’re Growing, we hope those Mos are taking shape — every whisker tells a story. If you’re Moving, Hosting, or Mo’ing Your Own Way, keep that momentum going. You’re helping raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health across Canada’s workplaces and boardrooms.

The energy and creativity from teams this year have been next-level — from office challenges and trivia nights to early Mo milestones. You’re leading the charge for better conversations and healthier workplaces everywhere.

Check out the Business Club leaderboard below and see where your team stands. The competition’s heating up — and we’re only just getting started!

Day 2 – Recovery Run Day

A recovery run isn’t about pushing your limits or achieving personal bests—it’s about allowing your body to recuperate, maintain movement, and promote blood flow to your muscles at an easy pace (about 60% effort). Similarly, scheduling downtime between demanding work blocks isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity. These breaks help your mind reset, reduce stress, and sustain productivity throughout the day. Just as a recovery run supports your long-term athletic progress, regular breaks—whether it’s a 30-minute weight session, a 15–20-minute walk, or simply stepping away for a moment—are vital for your overall well-being and effectiveness at work.

Question: How often do you incorporate these essential breaks into your daily routine?

3 Week(s) Ago

Day 1 - I’m fulfilling my daily running goal of 6.71 km by completing a 5 km race and a 2 km treadmill run beforehand.

This race is dedicated to my granny, who has always reminded me of the importance of staying active.

Studies indicate that running benefits mental health. I'd be happy to share some miles, whether long or short, with anyone interested in giving it a try.
