The Movember community generously donates their funds, faces and time to help Movember change the face of men’s health. In 2012, Mo Bros and Mo Sistas in Canada raised an incredible $42.6 million. Of those funds raised, 87.2% has been committed to programs combating prostate cancer and men’s mental health initiatives, and through its Global Action Plan (GAP), testicular cancer. To run an organization and campaign the size of Movember, a number of fundraising and administrative tasks are necessary. The Movember team is proud of its administration and fundraising ratios, which in Canada was 8.5% of the funds raised. This is well below international best practice, which is in the range of 15% - 20%.

Costs that are grouped under administration and fundraising include:

Credit card processing fees
Systems development and technology to process donations securely
Bank fees
Legal costs
Salaries for admin support staff
Insurance
Telecommunications and computer equipment
Office rent and general office maintenance costs
Travel
Foreign Exchange costs

As a fiscally conservative organization Movember retains a small percentage of funds to cover future campaigns and to ensure the long-term continuity of the organization. Canada retained 4.3% of the 2012 funds raised. The retained funds are being progressively built up over multiple campaigns, and once the Board of Directors are satisfied they are at a sufficient level, no further funds will be retained.
