Movember is thrilled to announce that Damien Angus has been appointed to Chair and Non-Executive Director – marking an exciting new chapter for our global men’s health movement.
Damien brings continuity, insight, and deep understanding to the position, having served on Movember’s Global Board since 2020. His appointment follows three years of dedicated leadership from outgoing Chair Richard Deutsch, whose guidance helped Movember navigate a period of remarkable global evolution.
With over two decades of experience providing strategic counsel to governments, not-for-profits and major health organizations, Damien brings a wealth of expertise to the role. A Partner at Bain & Company, he holds a PhD in physiology, an MBA from Melbourne Business School and a strong personal commitment to Movember’s hairy mission – to change the face of men’s health.
Reflecting on his appointment, Damien said he is honoured to step into the role and excited about what lies ahead.
“Movember has built something truly special. Over more than 20 years, it has grown from a bold fundraising idea into a global movement that has changed how the world talks about men’s health. My vision is one of evolution, not revolution - strengthening what works, modernizing where needed, and sustaining the momentum we’ve built.
We are at our best when we’re bold, collaborative and grounded in lived experience. Movember’s culture - fun, courageous, connected - is something I’m deeply committed to protecting as we continue to grow.”
Damien highlighted the Movember Institute of Men’s Health, launched in 2023 and led by Professor Simon Rice, as a key driver of impact.
“The Movember Institute is now the engine room for our impact - a world-class centre generating insights, evidence and solutions. It is helping solidify Movember as a credible global voice in policy and systems reform.”
He also pointed to Movember’s Real Face of Men’s Health reports as powerful tools of evidence currently shaping government agendas around the world.
Movember’s commitment to Indigenous men’s health is an area that Damien is deeply passionate about.
In 2024, Movember announced $59.5 million AUD funding over seven years to improve the social and emotional wellbeing of Indigenous men and boys across Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand, Canada and the United States. On top of this commitment, at the start of 2025 respected Mamu man Nathan Appo became the first Indigenous Australian to join Movember's Global Board of Directors.
“Indigenous boys and men continue to experience disproportionate rates of psychological distress, suicide and chronic disease.
Having Nathan on the Board ensures Indigenous voices, cultural knowledge and lived experience guide the decisions we make and the programs we support,” Damien said.
A father of three, Damien is deeply motivated by helping boys, men and their communities live longer, healthier and more connected lives.
“Men’s health isn’t a zero-sum conversation with women’s health - these issues coexist. When men are well, families and communities thrive. I want the next generation of Mo Bros and Mo Sisters to inherit a movement that is even stronger than the one we have today.”
And like many Mo Bros and Mo Sistas, Damien has witnessed the significant impacts of prostate cancer, testicular cancer and suicide.
“I’ve seen the ripple effect of suicide and watched friends and relatives face cancer. It’s why prevention matters - and why Movember matters.”
As Chair, Damien’s early priorities will focus on sustainability, renewal and long-term strategic clarity – including evolving Movember’s campaign model, strengthening workplace and digital engagement and broadening revenue streams to support programs at the global level.
“This is a moment of renewal. We have a loyal global community, strong brand trust and a clear purpose - and my role is to help Movember evolve so our impact continues to grow for the next 20 years and beyond,” said Damien.
Movember CEO Michelle Terry welcomed the appointment.
“We are thrilled to welcome Damien to his new position of Chair,” said Michelle.
“Damien’s expertise and deep commitment to changing the face of men’s health will be invaluable as we continue to drive global impact. I am incredibly excited for the year ahead and to work with Damien to build even greater momentum for men’s health.”
