Movember Cookie Dusters of the North

$0

Target: $10,000
Our Motivation

Yes we are back again for our second year of MO-vember madness. We have a great group of Alberta oil field workers ready to put their top lips on display to raise money for men's mental health, as well as help provide assistance to support people in the fight against cancer.
This year will be looking to grow some of the greasiest stashes in the patch for your viewing pleasure. We will be updating the site starting November 1st with pics and stories. We all know someone in our lives that has been affected by some type of mental health issue. Movember donations directly help individuals going through tough times dealing with mental health issues as well as cancer related issues. We would like to do our part to help raise funds for our brothers and sisters.
It is always up to you how much to donate.
Please pass this on with you social media, email or how ever you see fit.
And remember, if this reaches you in a time of need don't be afraid to reach out to family, friends or support groups. Rig hands understand the need to ask for help and work together to achieve success.

Thank you to all of you that participated in donating, growing a monster stash, attempted to grow a monster stash (AKA me), people who passed on our message, as well as those who just even engaged in conversation about cancer and mental health. Yes we raised some money for a good cause. But maybe we had a conversation about cancer and then even one person decided "Hey I should go get that checked out" and caught it early enough. Maybe someone was given the courage through conversation to reach out for help in dealing with a mental health issue. Or someone had the courage to reach out and help someone.
We are all on this rock flying through space together. We need to look out for each other as well as our selves.
We look forward to doubling down next year.

From the, MOVEMBER COOKIE DUSTERS OF THE NORTH,

Peace, Love and Cheers.

OK TEAM! WE DID IT.
We hit our goal and had some fun. We opened the door for lots of conversations about men's health and mental health. Even just having a greasy moustache and having someone ask "what's with the moustache?" gets the conversation going. That's what its all about!

Time for a PSA moment...

During the early stages of colon cancer, many people don't experience any symptoms. And regular screenings, like a colonoscopy, are the best way to catch colon cancer early when it's most curable. That's why it's so important to get your screening when you turn 45 (or earlier if your doctor says so).

Most colon cancer begins as harmless polyps or growths in your colon. The goal is to find the polyps and remove them before they become cancerous. Doctors can remove these polyps during a colonoscopy. Don’t wait until it's too late.

Some people may need a colonoscopy or other non-invasive screening even earlier:

- For those with a parent or sibling who has had colon cancer, schedule your colonoscopy 10 years before their age when diagnosed. So, if your father was diagnosed with colon cancer at age 53, you need your first colonoscopy at 43.

- If you have inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis talk to your doctor to see if you need to begin screenings sooner.

Time for another PSA.

The current climate for men’s mental health has come to a critical point in history, where national strategies need to be made to address the increasing number of men who are experiencing mental health-related challenges.

As a society, stigmas associated with mental health are prevalent and common. Men face the added stigma that seeking help for mental health is a sign of weakness, that ‘real men’ don’t ask for help, and that talking about topics like anxiety and depression won’t help. Men often experience further bias within male counterparts with the perceived belief that mental health challenges make men a burden to others, and men should be able to control and manage their own feelings. Whatever the stigmas, we need to stop shaming men into thinking they are inadequate if they express a need to address mental health challenges or concerns. Without support and empathy, men will continue to suffer in silence and experience worsening or more acute challenges with mental health disorders.
