I am once again joining the fight for men's health, and I am hoping you will join me.
I was diagnosed with cancer January 8, 2020. Thankfully, they caught it early and I was told that my chances of a successful recovery was very high. After going through chemo, radiation, and surgery, I am recovered, and doing great. I could not have made it this far without my friends, co-workers, doctors, nurses, volunteers and all the other people in the medical community that have helped me along the way. The donations collected through Movember, and other cancer research campaigns makes a difference. Every dollar is a step towards saving a life, and supporting the search for better, more effective treatment. I thank everyone from the bottom, top, and both sides of my heart for your support.
It is estimated that in 2022:
-24,600 Canadian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. This represents 20% of all new cancer cases in men in 2022.
-4,600 Canadian men will die from prostate cancer. This represents 10% of all cancer deaths in men in 2022.
-On average, 67 Canadian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer every day.
-On average, 13 Canadian men will die from prostate cancer every day.
Testicular cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in young men; an estimated 1,200 Canadian men have been diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2022, with an estimated 35 deaths per day from the illness. Movember is working to halve the number of deaths from prostate and testicular cancer by 2030, and I want to help them get there.
Movember is not only trying to reduce fatalities due to various cancers, but they are also working diligently to help reduce the rate of male suicide by 25% by 2030. The rate of suicide is alarmingly high, particularly in men. Around the world 60% of suicides are men, and in Canada that number is as high as 75%.
Movember helps promote mental health awareness through education, advocating for government action, and funding innovative services and programs to support mental health. Too many men struggling in silence - so lets end that silence together. Approx. 11 people die by suicide each day
Approx. 4,000 deaths by suicide per year, 1/3 of deaths by suicide are among people 45-59 years, and suicide is the second leading cause of death among youth and young adults (15-34 years). Suicide rates are also approx. 3x higher among men compared to women.
Movember is the leading charity changing the face of men's health, and this Movember I'm joining them. Together we can make a difference for men's health – in prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.
Help me stop men dying too young.
Thank you,
Daniel England
