My motivation
Fundraising for cause areas including:
Mental health and suicide prevention

Hi - I'm from Calgary, Alberta, and in my third year participating in Movember with the Calgary Flames team. In my past two years I have been raising awareness for men's mental health issues and funds for the Movember Foundation:

2018: Ran 300km in the month of November ($13,000)
2019: Ran the New York City Marathon ($14,000)

My challenge for the 2020 season is the 4x4x48 challenge: On November 27-29, I will run 48 miles in 48 hours in 4 mile increments every 4 hours. This is the equivalent of approximately 2 marathons over the span of two days, while having minimal recovery and rest time.

Although these challenges are more taxing than they are fun, the challenge is minimal when compared to the anxiety challenges I have faced in my life, and have given me the platform to share my story, and allow my message to reach people facing similar issues as well as helping those not impacted become more empathetic and aware of what is commonly happening in their circle.

My personal story is that I discovered in March 2018 that I had been managing a chronic anxiety disorder for my entire life, and the stress that it put on my mind and body caused an autoimmune reaction, alopecia. Alopecia caused my eyebrows, facial hair, and hair in the back of my head to stop growing in bizarre patterns drawing negative and curious attention from those around me. Although the hair loss was annoying, it is only superficial. The end result has been a blessing for me, as it made a serious issue that I dealt with quietly and unknowingly, so obvious that it forced a diagnosis, self awareness, and personal growth that have benefited my quality of life in countless ways. Awareness is the first step, and what these Movember messages are all about.

Jamie, your story is inspiring and one I can’t help but draw similarities to to mine.

This year I’m running the 60x60, a challenge I proposed to myself to run 3,600 metres every day of Movember for the 60 men who die every 60 minutes from suicide.
I’d love to link up and chat further about our collective goals. It seems we share a very similar mindset.

Let’s keep going out there!

A beautiful Saturday jaunt through Confederation park. Took it at an easy pace after a week of adjustments.

This one was for Darcy Anderson. Another generous Curling supporter from the winter club, and one whom didn’t hesitate to donate. Thank you Darcy.

Shout to my father, Gary “The Big Coch” Cochrane.

Gary is the most generous person I know, and at times to a fault, where many people can take it for granted and take advantage of it. We challenge each other just about every day and believe in trying to achieve continuous improvement in a world where perfection does not exist.

It was no surprise to me when he was one of the first people to support my cause, and did so very generously. I wanted to especially earn this one, I managed to not only grind my way to my first 10km of the year, but in fact was the best 10km time of my life.

I ran 5 km00:22:00

Shout out to my uncle Gasper for the support! Gasper is one of the most kind, generous, and welcoming people I know, and lucky to have his support. Love ya man.

Shout out to Drew Single, a great supporter of the Cochrane family for as long as I have known. Hope you don’t refund the donation after the Flames stomp the Jets this year!
