Target: $1,500
raised $11,177 since 2010
My motivation
Fundraising for cause areas including:
Men's health
Mental health and suicide prevention

Within reason, I'm dedicating 10 minutes of wellness time for every $10 you give. Give $20 and I'll meditate for 20 minutes. Give $40 and I'll complete a lunch time walk. Give $60 and I'll go to a yoga class. Etc.

Wellness is more about physical walking and running. This year I'm changing things up and adding other wellness events to my commitment.

It's also the 1-year anniversary of the release of Dennis on the Run - A Men's Survival Guide to Lasting Change. I will donate $1 of every book sold in November to Movember!

Here's a little bit of my story:
In December 2020, I found myself down from the pandemic. I was exhausted; I had no energy; I was tired all of the time; and I was fighting keeping my emotions in check. I wasn't taking care of myself. I decided that I was going to eliminate alcohol, eat healthier, meditate and I started to walk/run. I completed my first marathon in September 2021. In August 2022, I started cycling. I'm now almost 4 years alcohol-free and in close to the best shape of my life.

My motivation for supporting Movember is to bring awareness and open discussion for Men's mental and physical health. With the money, Movember funds groundbreaking health projects across mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer – 1,250 projects so far.

How I'm
getting involved
35 of 60 kilometres
walking
10 kilometres
running
25.5 kilometres
I'm moving 60km this Movember for the 60 men we lose each hour of every day.

As mentioned, this year I’m tracking wellness minutes — one minute of wellness time for every dollar donated.

This little experiment is fascinating. I’m noticing wellness in new ways and being far more intentional about it. I’m realizing that wellness isn’t always about running or sweating — it can be found in the everyday moments when we’re truly present.

Granted, being on vacation this past week has made it easier to log some serious wellness time. But I’ve been deliberate about making the most of it.

Here’s a look at how my week unfolded:

Being present and grounded at the International Impact Book Awards gala — so much so that I forgot to take photos with my mom and wife (other than one red carpet shot!)

60 minutes of meditation (10 minutes a day)

2.5 hours reading and finishing Longship, a great book by my friend Cody Lakevold

Plenty of naps — highly underrated wellness activity

Four 6km runs in the fresh morning air

1 hour at a local community jam listening to live music

20 minutes in a freezing, unheated pool (bonus points for recovery!)

2 hours hiking the Salt River area in Mesa looking for wild horses

Countless hours visiting family in Phoenix and Mesa

Errands and small projects — changing lightbulbs, batteries, and setting up a new TV for my mom at their winter home

30 minutes shopping at an estate store

60 minutes shopping for new shoes and sandals

By my count, that adds up to roughly 19 hours of wellness time — or 1,140 minutes — far exceeding my weekly goal of ~400 minutes.

Some of these might seem like “borderline wellness” activities, but that’s the point. It’s all about perspective. Rather than zoning out in front of the TV or scrolling online, I stayed active, engaged, and present. To me, that’s wellness.

Last week of Movember. Thanks to all of my supporters! We once again raised more than $1,500!! After a big workout on Sunday (45 mins row; 1:45hrs cycle; 45 mins running), I'm at 35.6 hours of activity in November which is 2,136 minutes exceeding my goal to match 1 mins of activity for every $1 donated! What a great way to enjoy November!

156 Week(s) Ago

Another big workout Sunday November 13. 30 mins - Row; 90 mins cycle was 40km. The 'mo is looking impressive!!!

157 Week(s) Ago

Big work out on Sunday, November 6. I did a mock indoor triathlon in my basement. 30 mins - Row; 60 mins cycle and 40 minutes run. This "simulates" a sprint triathlon.

158 Week(s) Ago

All clean and ready for Chia Movember!!

Note: As donations can be made privately, not all donations are displayed to the public.
