My motivation
Fundraising for cause areas including:
Men's health

Since 2010, I have been immensely proud to have raised nearly $30,000 for men's health project. Who would've thought that a little stubble hair on my upper lip could make such a positive difference in the world!

So how did we get here? When I first began fundraising for Movember, I thought it was a funny way to try and grow a moustache while supporting a good cause. However, on June 22, 2012, my reasons for fundraising became much more personal when I was diagnosed with a cancerous spinal tumour and had to undergo both surgery and radiation therapy at the age of 21. Over ten years later, I am still fighting this terrible disease.

As someone who has been affected by cancer, the one thing I've learned is that people often discuss physical and mental health as two separate issues rather than as one entity. Throughout my post-cancer journey, I struggled with how to pick up the pieces of my life that were interrupted by the diseases. I knew that I was one of the lucky ones because I was still here to tell my story, and yet I lived with constant anxiety over the fear of recurrence and mourned through the loss of my youth due to the impacts that radiation therapy had on my hair.

Each year, more and more individuals are receiving life-saving treatments through the advancements in cancer research; and while this is incredible news, this also means that more and more individuals are also having to learn how to mentally cope with living with a chronic disease. Overall, several studies have found that cancer survivors have greater physical, social, financial and emotional challenges than their peers without cancer. That's why it's important that investments in mental health resources for survivors be made to keep pace with medical treatments. Because even after the bell has been rung at the last cancer treatment, a cancer survivor's fight with cancer is never really over.

And so, as the late Stuart Scott once perfectly stated, "You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live." That's why every year I choose to raise my voice, the one thing cancer could never take from me, and tell my supporters my Movember mantra: Be Kind. Stay Positive. And Most Importantly, F*ck Cancer.

Dedicated in loving memory to Brenden Decker, my best friend.

Thank-you for your commitment and support.

We've now arrived at Movember 30 and everyone in this challenge should pause for a moment to reflect on an amazing job done, what can only be described as an epic 'stache and an impressive commitment to help change the face of men's health.

As Mo season is coming to a close, I want to flag that the leaderboards will officially close on Thursday, December 7th at 5 pm EST, marking the moment we crown our 2023 Movember champions of each challenge. While donations can still be received after this time, please note that they won't contribute to the leaderboard race.

Thanks for all you have done this year and will continue to do as we move forward.
