My motivation
Fundraising for cause areas including:
Men's health
Prostate cancer
Testicular cancer
Mental health and suicide prevention

In over two decades in the mining industry, I’ve witnessed firsthand how we diligently address physical risks and safety protocols. Yet, the mental and emotional challenges we face often go unspoken. The demanding rotations—weeks spent away from home—can foster feelings of isolation, heightened stress, and disconnection from loved ones. These factors, compounded by societal expectations placed on men, can lead to a silent struggle with mental health.

My journey isn’t just professional; it’s deeply personal. I’ve felt the ripple effects of substance abuse, seen families torn apart by violence, and mourned the loss of friends and colleagues to suicide. Additionally, my family and extended family have faced the harsh realities of prostate and testicular cancer. Witnessing loved ones battle these diseases has underscored the critical importance of men’s health on all fronts—physical, mental, and emotional.

This year, as I participate in Movember once again, I’m carrying the memory of two friends—Kevin and Damon—who both passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. Their lives, full of resilience, creativity, and compassion, serve as reminders of the importance of living authentically, taking care of ourselves, and supporting one another. Their legacy pushes me to address the mental health challenges we face in mining, where silence too often surrounds our struggles.

Movember is more than a mustache-growing event; it’s a movement that shines a light on these hidden battles. It advocates for mental health resources tailored to the unique challenges we face in mining and supports groundbreaking research in prostate and testicular cancer. Movember strives to redefine seeking help as a courageous act of strength, just as Kevin and Damon showed me that true strength lies in resilience, authenticity, and connection.

This year, my mission is clear: to bridge the gap between the unspoken struggles within our industry and the broader conversation about men’s health. I aim to cultivate an environment where every miner feels seen, heard, and supported—where mental and physical well-being are held in the highest regard.

The core values of our mining community—teamwork, resilience, mutual support—are powerful tools. Let’s harness them to confront the health challenges before us. I encourage my peers to join me: share your stories, listen without judgment, and stand together in solidarity. By living with authenticity, staying present for one another, and building quiet resilience, we honor those who have fought and those we’ve lost.

In memory of Kevin, Damon, and those we’ve lost, in support of those still fighting, and with hope for a brighter, healthier future for all in our community, I proudly stand with Movember. Together, every mustache grown, every conversation sparked, and every dollar raised brings us closer to meaningful change.

We've now arrived at Movember 30 and everyone in this challenge should pause for a moment to reflect on an amazing job done, what can only be described as an epic 'stache and an impressive commitment to help change the face of men's health.

As Mo season is coming to a close, I want to flag that the leaderboards will officially close on Thursday, December 7th at 5 pm EST, marking the moment we crown our 2023 Movember champions of each challenge. While donations can still be received after this time, please note that they won't contribute to the leaderboard race.

Thanks for all you have done this year and will continue to do as we move forward.

**Movember: A Journey Close to My Heart**

Movember holds a special place in my heart. It echoes the personal challenges I've witnessed: from my father's fight against testicular cancer, an uncle's struggle with schizophrenia, to the silent battles of anxiety and depression in remote communities. My experiences in remote metals mining have shown me the often unspoken hardships men endure.

This Movember, I stand for all those who've suffered in silence. It's time to bring these issues into the light.
