My motivation

On Aug 10 2024 I will be attempting the Marilyn Bell crossing of Lake Ontario to raise money and awareness for Men’s Mental Health. Whilst also challenging myself with what will no doubt be the hardest endurance challenge of my life. My hope is to show people that with discipline and hard work you can achieve anything you put your mind to.

This course follows the route used by 16 year old Marilyn Bell on the first successful crossing of Lake Ontario back in 1954. The course is 50.5 km’s crossing Lake Ontario. Starting at Niagara on the Lake in Queens Royal Park and finishing at what is now known as Marilyn Bell Park.

The current state of men’s health isn’t acceptable. There is a job to be done to stop men dying too young, missing out on life, on family, on friendship. Over the age of 65, in developed countries, women outnumber men by a quarter. The crisis is worsening. Three quarters of suicides are men. Poor mental health leads to half a million men taking their own lives every year. One man is taking his own life, every minute of every day.

I know first hand that regular exercise can help to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, boost mood, and improve overall well-being. It's like a natural stress reliever that helps guys clear their minds and find a sense of calm.

The Movember Foundation helps men live healthy, happy lives and prevents men from dying too young, while also providing them with a platform to talk about their mental health.

I hope to inspire others to also use physical activity to help with their mental health. Please support me as I tackle my greatest challenge yet, by donating to this cause.
