Movember is the leading charity changing the face of men's health, and this Movember I'm joining them. Together we can make a difference for men's health – in prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. Help me stop men dying too young.

I have a number of personal reasons for participating in fundraising for Movember. Both my father and father in law were diagnosed with prostate cancer and in 2023 I too was diagnosed with it.

My story is all about early detection. My cancer was discovered as a result of a regular physical/check up with my family doctor. When my blood test results came back my PSA was elevated compared to a couple of years before, but not too high. Thankfully my doctor decided to have a follow up test done, due to my family history, my dad also had prostate cancer in his 70's.

Fast forward to February 5th, 2023 after the second blood test my PSA was still elevated and a biopsy was conducted of my prostate, that terrible "c" word showed up in my biopsy results and my world was changed.

Today, I am on the other side of treatment and my blood test results have been positive. My oncologist stressed this is a journey and I don't get to declare victory just yet. I consider myself to be truly lucky and want to spread the word so that others can catch this early like I did and to support those who's battles are far more difficult than mine has been to date.

Week 1 down. Sadly the Mo is going about as expected. I promise there are whiskers there on that top lip.

I do have to say a huge thank you to everyone who has reached out, donated to the charity and most importantly to my male friends who acknowledged it’s time to go for a check up.

To those who have also shared their stories and battles with cancer, thank you for sharing. Cancer touches far too many of us, our families and our friends.
