Men's health Prostate cancer Testicular cancer Mental health and suicide prevention
My Story,
Earlier this year my life long, best friend Doug underwent surgery and began treatments for prostate cancer.
His advice to all the “Fairview Boys’ was to get your PSA levels checked regularly.
I was due for my yearly physical and wanted to get my blood work and exam done before COVID 19 took hold. After a couple of “high level PSA blood tests” my GP referred me to an Urologist. Again more blood work was required with varying results and finally a biopsy confirmed on August 26, 2020 that I have early stage prostate cancer. Decisions on treatment options were discussed and after much research I am having robotic radical prostatectomy at the end of October.
My Urologist says with my young age, otherwise good health that my 10 year plus survival rate is 98% to 99%. It’s still very difficult to say “I have cancer’ but I’m grateful for getting in for my surgery quickly and from there, focusing on my recovery.
