Prostate cancer

This is my 5th year being a Mo-Bro and I am constantly blown away by the support I receive.

Why am I doing this you ask?

In March of 2020 at 45 years of age I was diagnosed with Prostate cancer. I had gone to see my doctor because of increased urinating where it was discovered that I was diabetic. It was through the follow up testing for my blood sugar levels that elevated PSA levels were found. It was all thanks to my family doctor deciding that my PSA levels should be checked at the same time I did my blood sugar, even though the Prostate physical exams were all normal. I cannot thank Dr. Gurbin in Kincardine, ON enough for the foresight to check even though I did not fit "the profile" candidate...… without him doing that, I would be in a completely different situation.

Urologist Dr. MacFarland in Kitchener , ON looked after me with complete professionalism, calming my fears and explaining what was going to happen. A Prostate Biopsy reveled cancer with a Gleason score of 7 and the follow-up bone scan and CATT scan reveled that it was currently contained to the Prostate. So I was headed to the hospital for a major surgery, mind you this was April when everything was shut down for COVID. Going for a major surgery and having your wife drop you off at the front doors of the hospital and say "I guess I'll see you in 2 days" is not right, but it was the reality we were living in then.

Fast forward to now after a few long months of waiting for results, including the dreaded phone call.... "Mr. Thompson, during the biopsy the cancer was found outside the Prostate, so we are going to have to do some more testing."
Thankfully it was caught in time and all the cancer was removed during the surgery. I can now officially say after some follow up blood tests that my PSA is 0, which means I am currently cancer free.

I am doing this for my sons and I am doing this to raise awareness. If one guy gets a test because of my story then I will consider it a success.
