Where The Money Goes

A team of scientists led by Dr. John Bell of The Ottawa Hospital are developing treatment for prostate cancer using viruses that destroy cancer cells and boost the antic- cancer immune response, leaving normal cells unharmed. Because of Mo Bros and Mo Sistas, the Movember Foundation, and our friends at Prostate Cancer Canada, this team will receive approximately $5 million through 2020.

“When normal cells become cancerous, they acquire genetic mutations that allow them to grow very quickly, but these same genetic mutations also make them more susceptible to viruses” explains Dr. John Bell. The funding for this grant program is based on leveraging the fact that many cancer cells have weak anti- viral defense systems.
