Thanks to you and the Movember Foundation, Dr. Jehonathan Pinthus and his team at McMaster University are embarking on groundbreaking research. Winner of Prostate Cancer Canada’s Clinical Trials, Dr. Pinthus and his team have received $3.5 M in funding, and will be working to directly tackle the link between ADT, a common treatment for prostate cancer, and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT) is a treatment that reduces the risk of death and other complications for men with advanced prostate cancer. However, secondary data from past studies have raised and dismissed concerns that ADT could actually cause heart disease in otherwise healthy subjects. In order to make ADT as safe as possible, the clinical community need to understand the cardiovascular side effect and develop a comprehensive plan to monitor and manage them. And because of you, this study aims to do just that.
This is just one of the programs you’re helping to support through Prostate Cancer Canada. Want a complete look at all the programs we’ve funded to date? Check out our Report Cards here.
