Mo Awareness Program
Where The Money Goes
2 MIN READ
Whilst fundraising is one key part of the Movember mission, raising awareness is equally important if we want to help match the gains seen by the women’s health movement. We know that awareness alters behaviour and mind-set; it gradually breaks down barriers and forces real change. Movember wants men to understand the symptoms and signs in both themselves and others and to appreciate when and how to seek help if needed. Our program is varied but all activities have the common objective of changing attitudes and actions through raised awareness.

We raise awareness through a variety of means, including our website, merchandise, working with sponsors to create exclusive offers for the Movember community, distributing health information, the creation of office kits, utilising the support of high profile ambassadors and generating a high level of media exposure. We also facilitate and support the running of Mo Parties across the world, put on end of month Gala events and plan high impact activations, such as getting a Government building to sport a giant moustache for Movember or creating photo opportunities for the media throughout the month.

Each year, we carry out a piece of research with Deakin University in Australia. The aim of which is to understand whether Movember is having an impact on behaviour, as a result of Mo Bro and Sista participation. Encouragingly, the latest results suggest Movember is having a direct and significant impact on both men’s health awareness and behaviour:

  • 54% talked about men’s health issues with others, with 30% of those attributing that directly to their involvement in Movember
  • 22% did some of their own research into men’s health issues, with 51% of those attributing that directly to their involvement in Movember
  • 35% sought medical advice, with 10% of those attributing that directly to their involvement in Movember
  • 38% encouraged someone else to seek medical advice, with 20% of those attributing that directly to their involvement in Movember
