Let’s Get’er MOin!

My name is Paul Cowan, and I MO for those whose voices are not yet heard, and for the voices we’ve lost to mental illness. My goal this month is to raise awareness for mental health and break down the walls of stigma that still surround it.

My story is far more complex than these words, but if you ever need to talk, you ain’t heavy! I’m growing my MO and humbly asking that you take a moment to read my motivation and help me raise awareness and funds to support men’s mental health and help end male suicide.

People often describe me as energetic, fun-loving, and full of passion for life. What most don’t know is that from age sixteen to now, I’ve lived with depression and faced thoughts of suicide through various stages of my life. When COVID began, I made the decision to go back on medication to help chemically balance some of the struggles I was facing.

Today, my reality is brighter than it was a few years ago, but challenges still arise and bad days still happen, as they do for everyone. My hope is that other men who struggle can also find the support they need. My MO is for them.

This month is a chance to have fun, laugh at all the beautiful upper lip sweaters, and do something meaningful. Mental health and my own experiences with it have deeply impacted me and my family. This is my chance to turn that into something positive.

So follow along as I grow my mustache for men’s mental health this MOvember! Comment on how good or ugly it looks, I can take it! And if you aren’t a MO bro or sista, take a moment to learn about the cause and join forces to make a difference.

Alright, one last thing. When I was younger, I used to do the dumbest things with my facial hair. Now that I’m “responsible” (aka married and an educator), this month is my one shot to proudly rock a ridiculous duster and just let’er fly!

So here’s to embracing our weird, laughing a little, and doing a lot of good.

Cheers, y’all! Let’s get’er MOin!
