The last time I participated in Movember was 2 years ago. Two years ago I was not in the best of places. I spent most of my day sitting in my seat behind a desk doing endless work hours of video calls. I was overweight. I hadn't been to the doctor in years. My family was very frustrated with me for not being present enough. I wasn't sleeping well. My mother had just passed away and my dad was following close behind. I was asking for charitable donations for men's health, although I was completely neglecting my own. I felt like I was following a path to my own self-destruction and I was smiling and laughing my way through it, skipping along like all was good in the world.

Then, everything changed.

I was released from my job. At first I was unbelievably frustrated and, for the first time in my working life, I wasn't sure what to do next. What I came to realize was that this was a gift. Having this time to myself, I began to concentrate on myself. I started going to therapy. I started working out and losing weight. I started seeing my doctor and just recently had my first colonoscopy! I decided to explore work outside of my wheelhouse and then started working as a voiceover actor. Slowly, the pieces started falling into place and I started to feel rejuvenated. I had started to put myself first. Focusing on my own physical and mental health was something that I very much needed and I probably wouldn't have done it if it weren't forced upon me. Now... it's not perfect. I'm still looking for work in my industry that will have to come with new boundaries. Money's tight and because of that, we haven't been able to travel as much as I like. But overall... it's much better.

So, that's where I am now and where I hope others can see for themselves. Yes, on the surface, it's just me annoying people on social media with a skimpy looking mustache, but on a much deeper level, I hope I'm educating men about their physical and mental health. I've seen friends and colleagues suffer in silence and I've seen too many of them crack in unexpected ways. Please take care of yourselves and wishing everyone the best!

Paul.
