Prostate Cancer Canada (PCC) has announced its latest step forward in collaborative care for individuals going through prostate cancer with A Survivorship Action Partnership, or ASAP. Funded by Movember, this is the largest investment in survivorship in Canada to date, with a minimum of 10 million dollars of Mo raised funds.

As opposed to specific scientific research, survivorship studies how to better the mental and emotional well-being of those with prostate cancer. To put it in a broader perspective, when someone is diagnosed with prostate cancer, survivorship is what happens after. Treatment decisions, support, recovery, the list goes on and on.

ASAP takes a multi-disciplinary approach with collaborative networks to draw knowledge from healthcare professionals in either the clinical or community fields. This means that non-medical members of the public (i.e. cancer survivors) will be able to weigh in on important issues and provide aid to those currently battling the disease. Under this program, a comprehensive set of solutions will be developed to ease the burden faced by prostate cancer survivors, their partners and caregivers.

We are more than excited to see such a sizable investment into a field that needs attention.
