This is the first year that I can remember when I genuinely considered not participating in Movember since I started doing it back in 2009. With the horrific events of October 7 ringing in my head and the terrifying violence happening in its wake, it felt like the wrong time for this.

But, as you probably know by now, protecting men's mental health, particularly by encouraging men to talk and everyone to listen, is the main reason I ask everyone I can to give to Movember every year.

In this time, I've needed to lean on my exceptional network of caring, giving, compassionate friends. A lot.

Not everyone has that kind of personal network and I want those men who are alone and feeling many of the things I am, and many struggling with much much more than me, to have places and people to turn to. Movember has been building that infrastructure for years now. It is a crucial component of their work and without it, men would die.

Connection is at the heart of so many of the solutions I see. Our shared humanity can overcome anything when we truly feel it. It can show someone they have something to live for. It can revive hope when it's lost. It can heal age old wounds that seem insurmountable.

Together, our connection through this campaign will help men heal and might make you feel more hopeful about a future with fewer men dying too young.

Please give so that men all over the world have more space to talk about their mental health. Please give so my son knows that mental health is health. Please give so that prostate and testicular cancer don't take someone you love too early. Please give because men are dying too young, and we can put an end to it.
