Men's health

I'm raising funds and awareness this Movember for all the dads, brothers, sons and buds in our lives. I need your help. Movember not only fundraises for men’s physical health but their mental health as well. This fundraiser hits close to home for me.

Most recently I lost a best friend, crewmate, better described as a brother to suicide. After battling with depression for sometime, he seemed to be doing all the right things. Openly talked about his emotions and battles, seeking professional help and had reoccurring visits with his doctor. He had an amazing support group from both his family, friends and his brothers and sisters with the Edmonton Fire Dept. This summer, Marc was doing better then ever, constantly smiling from ear to ear, always up for anything whether is was a hockey game, round of golf or charity baseball game. Marc was always in. I will cherish all the memories we created in the last 10 years, there are many. For most of us we will never understand the battle that Marc went through, but all we can do now is learn from it and try to prevent it from happening to another loved one. It's scary what a smile can hide, lookout for one another, ask how someone is truly doing and most importantly; listen.

As important as mental health is physical health. Never be too proud to visit the doctor. Luckily my dad, Kevin caught his prostate cancer early enough to have a successful operation. Cancer is a scary word. You hear it everyday and just cross your fingers hoping it does not affect your loved ones. But the reality of it is that it eventually can and will. My dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer in April of 2016. Not a phone call you want to ever get, but the doctors and my parents were very optimistic. I knew my dad was a trooper and would battle hard, having tremendous support from my mom, Dolly, brother, Mark, and the rest of our family and friends. After surgery in September he had his PSA levels checked and they were back down to 0. A complete success. However the road to recovery can be long. I can say that my Dad is now 2 years cancer free and that makes my family and I so very happy. I could not imagine losing my dad so young, and now thanks to early detection and a successful operation we can enjoy many, many more years together and I am forever grateful.

Please donate big or small, every little bit helps

Thank you,
Brett Majeski

Today, we’re excited to share the final results of the 2025 Great Canadian Fire Challenge — and what an incredible month it has been.

Fire halls and departments across the country came together to raise $ 374,638 for men’s health. That’s 895 firefighters across 164 halls and departments, united for a cause that hits close to home.

Now for the big moment.

With a remarkable $28,392 raised, Lesser Slave Lake Regional Fire is your 2025 Great Canadian Fire Challenge Champion.

A huge congratulations as well to our top individual fundraiser, Michael Junior, who raised $8,864.

This year’s leaderboard was tighter than ever. Toronto Fire claimed silver and Coquitlam Fire and Rescue took bronze, with Southern Georgian Bay Firefighters and Oakville Fire closing out the top five.

To every firefighter, captain, and community member who got involved — thank you. Your efforts will help fund life-changing programs in mental health, suicide prevention, and cancer support for men across Canada.

Your leadership makes a difference, on and off the job.
