Mental health and suicide prevention

My motivation for this fundraiser is my older brother, Cole, who I lost to suicide four years ago. I participate in his memory and for all the men who are silently struggling. I hope to help break the stigma surrounding men’s mental health and remind others that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. No one should ever feel they have to face their battles alone.

Hi everyone! My name is Senshara, and I’m the Repair Coordinator at CSN Klassen. I’m proud to take part in Movember, a fundraiser that hits close to home for me and my family.

Four years ago, I lost my older brother Cole to suicide. He was smart, funny, kind, and the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. He had a heart of gold, and I looked up to him then and continue to look up to him every day. I strive to be more like him in the kindness I show and the love I give to others.

Too often, men are taught to “be strong,” keep their feelings to themselves, and push through pain without asking for help. But asking for help isn’t weakness; it takes strength to admit when you’re struggling. Mental health deserves the same care and attention as physical health.

In our industry, we spend our days looking at vehicles, identifying what's damaged, figuring out what needs to be repaired, and finding ways to make things right again. But sometimes, we forget to do the same for the people around us. We can't always see the damage someone is carrying on the inside, and we can't always know when someone is struggling behind a smile.

That’s why it’s so important to check in on our friends, brothers, fathers, sons, coworkers, and partners. Ask how they’re really doing. Make time to listen. Remind them they don’t have to face life’s challenges alone. A simple conversation or genuine check-in can mean more than we realize.

We can’t always fix what’s broken, but we can remind someone they don’t have to face it alone.

I’m participating in Movember in memory of Cole, in honour of the men we’ve lost, and for those who may be struggling silently today. I hope sharing my story helps break the stigma around men’s mental health and encourages even one person to speak up or check in on someone they care about.

This one is for you, Cole. I miss you every day, and I’ll carry your memory with me in everything I do.
