Carter Owen-Speelziek: "Health has to be your top priority."

Author: Movember
For one of our youngest Mo Bros, Carter Owen-Speelziek, an inability to grow facial hair (just yet) hasn’t held him back from getting involved in the men’s health movement.

In fact, Carter has raised more than many men with Mo’s this year – collecting thousands of dollars for men’s health, and sparking much-needed conversations in the process.

Inspired by a picture of a mustachioed Adam Henrique, Carter studied up on the Movember Foundation. From there, it didn’t take long before this champ hit the ground running – creating his very own Mo Space page.

So far, his progress has been remarkable.

While Carter has only reached double digits in terms of his age, he’s already raised $2,275 for men’s health. And he won’t stop there.

“I plan to educate my peers about the difference they can make by participating in the Movember movement, and I’m starting here to help set an example.”

Anisa Owen, Carter’s mother, has been blown away by the community’s reaction to her son’s epic efforts this Movember. “I’m so proud of him. He’s spreading awareness, talking to his friends at school and his friends at hockey about it.”

There’s no doubt about it. Carter’s one legendary Mo Bro. His efforts have sparked conversations across Canada – from the locker rooms of his minor ice hockey league, to the NHL.

As a hockey fanatic, Carter even received a personal congratulations from Anaheim Duck, Adam Henrique. If that isn’t making noise for men’s health, we don’t know what is.

Carter’s fundraising efforts are well on their way to helping men far and wide – in prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.

This Mini Mo Bro is a reminder that one person can make all the difference – no matter what kind of moustache they can (or can’t) grow.

As Carter himself says, “Our fathers, grandfathers, brothers, uncles, coaches, and teachers are our superheroes. To the superheroes in my life, you are my inspiration and I dedicate this to you.” Right on, Carter.
