My early involvement with the Movember Foundation was a simple desire to be part of a new social trend for which I had an innate ability, growing a moustache. The Movember Foundation, and support for its cause, grew rapidly, and I couldn’t help but notice the momentum and the impact the foundation was making with men’s health, specifically with prostate and testicular cancer.

It wasn’t long before I saw how these strains of cancer became present in my life. A friend in university was diagnosed with testicular cancer. My late grandfather was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Suddenly, the efforts of the Movember Foundation held much more weight for me and I felt compelled to support this cause by doing more than just growing a moustache. So, a few years ago I created my Mo Space, officially became a Mo Bro, and began contributing to the efforts of the Movember Foundation.

This year my support for the Movember Foundation holds great importance. My Uncle John was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2018. I witnessed the devastating impact this diagnosis had on his physical and mental well being, and how much it disrupted his life. After having a successful surgery to remove his prostate, he is now living cancer free! I am deeply thankful for the knowledge, research, and technology that exists in order to provide this outcome for my uncle, and I am motivated to further contribute efforts towards the Movember Foundation campaign.

I am a man who normally wears a particularly handsome beard, so I think it will come as quite a shock to people to witness my transformation to a clean-shaven face and, ultimately, to my stunning moustache. I hope my Mo will be a conversation starter to allow me to spread awareness about the Movember Foundation’s cause and maybe help raise some money in the process!
